Redmi Note 9 Display and Design
The Redmi Note 9 punches above its weight class. For a phone that is priced around the $200 range, it aims to be something more and you can tell that by the way the phone is designed.
Although it has a plastic frame, it comes in three interesting colours which are Forest Green, Midnight Grey and Polar White.
The Note 9 has a look of a flagship.
Coming to the display, it packs a 6.53-inch LCD IPS Display with a 83.5% screen to body ratio. It has Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for protection which is generally found in the premium flagships.
It has a plastic frame, but it doesn’t look like plastic when you see it first. The Redmi Note 9 also has a fingerprint sensor that is mounted in the back, just below the cameras which is a good spot for the fingerprint sensor. Although it’s a bit disappointing, it’s not on the side of the phone.
It has 450 nits of brightness which is pretty incredible. The size of the display itself is awesome and is perfect for gaming and content consumption.
OS, Chipset, RAM & Storage
The phone runs on the latest Android 10.0 with a MIUI 11 layer on top. It’s also powered by a Mediatek Helio G85 with a Mali-G52 GPU.
Accompanying this is a 3GB/4GB RAM with 64GB/128GB of storage that can be expanded with a dedicated MicroSD slot.
So what do we think?
Let’s talk about MIUI 11. MIUI has never had a good reputation because of its unnecessary bloatware and apps that you never use. Also the intrusive advertising doesn’t help.
But it does pack a lot of Android 10’s latest updates such as Dark Mode, Smart Reply and more. The latest MIUI 11 also comes packed with gesture navigation control, but this is only for a select users in China, so you can expect it in the next release of MIUI 12.
The MIUI 11 is a massive improvement on the older versions, but it still has its downsides and it’s one of the weakest OS’ in the market.
The Mediatek Helio G85 is a gaming chipset. With the Mali-G52 GPU, it’s perfect for those who are looking for a solid gaming phone at a cheap budget.
The 1Ghz graphics core makes it a breeze to play games on your phone. Not only from a gaming perspective, this chipset makes it good for AI cameras and is built for smartphones with multiple cameras.
According to Xiaomi, the Note 9’s chipset is 21% better than the Redmi Note 8.
It works brilliantly with 4G.
The storage and RAM on the Note 9 is solid and there are no issues out there.
Redmi Note 9 Camera
Although it’s the cheapest in the Note 9 series. It still packs quite a punch with it’s quad camera. Here are the specs.
- 48-megapixel wide camera
- 8-megapixel ultrawide camera
- 2-megapixel macro camera
- 2-megapixel depth camera
The front selfie camera is a 13MP shooter.
The cameras on the Redmi Note 9 in a single word are awesome. It can take portrait shots, AI shots, nighttime shots, wide angle shots and more.
HDR shots and Panorama are a given. It can shoot 1080p videos@30fps.

Redmi Note 9 Battery
The Redmi Note 9 has a 5020 mAh battery with a 18W fast charger that can also reverse charge another phone.
This is a pretty powerful battery with a lot of features.
Final Verdict
The Redmi Note 9 is a truly unique phone. It packs the same features as the Note 9S or the Note 9 Pro except with a little less component. If the main camera on the Pro is a 64-megapixel, then the Note 9 carries a 48-megapixel.
If the Note 9 Pro has a 6.67-inch, then the Note 9 has a 6.53-inch display. Hardly a difference.
This is a flagship liked phone that packs all the best features – Great looks, good camera, good battery at a great price point.
For it’s price, you can’t do better than the Note 9.
