Age old Nokia brand is going to launch its first Android Smartphone in early 2017. The brand’s present legal owner, HMD Global, confirmed its availability only in Chinese markets. HMD sources also stated that Nokia is soon to launch its Smartphone series in other global markets including India. The Chinese-exclusive Nokia model will be available in JD.com.
With 5.5 inches display, 4GB RAM and 16MP camera, Nokia’s first Android model will give a tough competition to the already established Smartphone brands like Samsung, Sony, Lenovo and other industry players. According to industry sources, its unique design and display features are some of the stand-out factors. However, soon after launch the brand is expecting a shortfall in sales, due to certain not-so-good specifications.
The news about Nokia 6 launch came through a press release on 8th January, 2017 on the website of HMD Global. It crossed-out the rumours of MWC debut by few more months. However, Nokia fans need to hold their patience for physically getting the phone, as it’s more specific to the Chinese marketplace.
Nokia 6 supports multiple networks- GSM, CDMA, HSPA, EVDO and LTE. With 16M colours, the phone has IPS LCD captivate touch-screen. Its 5.5 inches display provides 70.7% screen-to-body ratio to the users. The Nokia phone is 154×75.8×8.4mm in dimension. Light in weight (169g), the phone easily fits into the pockets. It is easy to carry and handle. Also, it has provision for dual SIM (Nano SIM and dual stand-by).
Nokia 6 phone in Singapore has a unibody design, which comes from using 6000 aluminium series. The home button features a fingerprint scanner. The phone also boasts of high resolution of 1080×1920 pixels and has 403ppi pixel density. It facilitates multi-touch and is additionally protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Camera is another noteworthy quality of the Nokia phone. The 16MP, f/2.0 primary camera has dual tone or dual-LED flash and enables phase detection autofocus. Some other camera features include touch focus, geo-tagging, face detection, panorama, and HDR. Using the camera, users can capture videos worth 1080p@30fps. The phone’s secondary camera is 8MP and gives a picture quality of 1080p. Its dual amplifiers and Dolby Atmos technology accounts for louder sound.
The phone is also equipped with other extraordinary features. It has fingerprint, gyro, proximity and compass sensors. The phone allows multiple messaging formats from SMS and MMS to Push Mail, Email and IM. It runs on HTML5 browser and comes with in-built tools like document viewer, photo and video editor.
Nokia 6 is based on Android 7.0 Nougat software, which delivers a user-friendly experience. Besides the basic software modules like in other Smartphones, HMD Global has indicated in offering a different experience, with an entirely new set of software tools and dynamic applications.
With the above features and some new technology, Nokia’s Android debut is a mid-range phone, costing yet to finalise.
As of now, HMV has no plans of expanding the launch and availability of the new Nokia Smartphone in other markets. However, the phone will be easily accessible to the world through JD.com
