REVIEW OF IPHONE 12 SINGAPORE
iPhone 12 Series in Singapore
One of the major highlights for the iPhone 12 series is, all the phones are 5G enabled. Apple’s using the latest 5G technology called the ‘millimetre wave’, which is considered to be the fastest version of 5G networks.

Battery Charging | 18W Fast Charging | 18W Fast Charging | 18W Fast Charging | 18W Fast Charging |
Stand-By Time | 17 hours | 15 hours | 17 hours | 20 hours |
Again, the speeds you experience depend on the carrier that you use.
We’ll get to the differences of the iPhone 12’s four variations. But let’s talk about the specifics of the iPhone 12 series.
All the phones in the series come with rounded edges. While the iPhone 12 and the 12 Mini have an aluminum frame, the 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max have a stainless steel frame.
The largest iPhone to date is the iPhone Pro Max which stands at 6.7-inches which is massive for an iPhone.
The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini are available in Black, White, Red, Green and Blue colours. While the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max are available in Silver, Graphite, Gold and Pacific Blue.
The iPhone 12 series is enabled with the A14 Bionic chipset, which is the latest chipset from Apple. This chipset, touted as the next big thing, improves the overall experience of the phone with improvements in the camera, sound, AI and battery life.
iPhone 12 Display
All the iPhone 12 phones have the Super RETINA XDR OLED display with HDR10 capabilities and 1200 nits of peak brightness. On average, you get 600 nits for the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 mini and 800 nits for the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
The display also has dolby vision and True Tone which is expected on an iPhone. The pixel density has increased and that makes it the best display for the right colours. The richness of the colours are pixel perfect with a much higher resolution.
The iPhone 12 series is enabled with a ceramic shield, which is said to be tougher than any other smartphone glass in the world. Apple claims it has 4X better performance during drops.
This is arguably the finest Apple display on an iPhone.
iPhone 12 Cameras
The cameras on the iPhone series are pretty distinct. Unlike the initial reports and rumours which suggested that the iPhone 12 will have a quad-camera set-up, the real iPhone 12 packs only a dual-camera for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini.
The iPhone 12 Pro & iPhone 12 Pro Max have a triple camera setup.
iPhone 12 & iPhone 12 Mini Camera Specifications
Both the cheaper iPhone 12’s have the same camera.
They have a dual camera setup with a 12-megapixel wide camera and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera.
It has a Quad-LED dual-tone flash with HDR. It can shoot HDR videos and you can get seamless 4K shots at 60 FPS and 1080p at 240 FPS.
The special addition is, you can shoot in Dolby Vision HDR up to 30 FPS. This, Apple claims is better than a lot of the cameras made for filmmaking.
The low-light shots are expected to be even better considering around 27% more light is attracted during low-light shots.
The front camera is a 12-megapixel wide angle lens with SL 3D which is a depth, biometric sensor.
iPhone 12 Pro & iPhone 12 Pro Max Camera Specifications
The 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max’ cameras are superior to the lower end iPhone 12’s. They have a triple camera setup that is as follows.
A 12-megapixel wide lens and a 12-megapixel camera with a telephoto lens and to seal the deal, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide, lens.
It also has a 3D LiDAR Scanner, which is able to identify objects in 3D and build a better environment for capturing photographs.
They can shoot 1080p @ 30fps.
iPhone 12 Battery
In typical, Apple fashion, they don’t share the capacity of the iPhone 12’ battery. But the A14 Bionic chip is supposedly really good for battery life as they have made some advancements in that chip.
Now, the standby time is a good measure with 17 hours for the iPhone 12, 15 hours for the 12 Mini, 17 hours for the iPhone Pro and 20 hours for the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
All the phones are shipped with a 18W fast charger that is expected to give 50% of battery in about 30 minutes, which is pretty standard.
Overall, the main additions to the iPhone 12 series is the inclusion of 5G, but only time will tell how the carriers react to Apple’s 5G.
The Mini iPhone 12 might be a hit as a lot of people would want to own a cheaper iPhone with a great camera and petite size.
iPhone 11 vs iPhone 12 Differences
If you are using the iPhone 11 or considering whether to buy a phone from the iPhone 11 series or the iPhone 12 series, you might notice on the outset, it seems the same. But there are major differences.
Here’s a simple comparison that can help you make a decision.
- Firstly all the phones in the iPhone 12 series are 5G enabled and that’s not the case with the iPhone 11.
- The iPhone 12 is also thinner, lighter that the iPhone 11 model
- The iPhone 12 is a much more robust device in terms of protection. Firstly there’s the ceramic shield which is supposed to give 4x more drop protection. It can also be submerged under water for 6 metres, compared to the iPhone 11’s 4 metres.
- The iPhone 11 has a wider range of colour options compared to the iPhone 12
- The iPhone 12’s OLED screen is way better than the iPhone’s LCD display. It means the 12 has better contrast and colours
- The cameras on the 11 and the 12 are almost the same with the exception of the Dolby Vision HDR and night-mode time lapse which has been added in the iPhone 12.
- The main change is in the bionic chip. The A13 bionic chip on the iPhone 11 is replaced by the A14 Bionic chip on the iPhone 12. The CPU, GPU and Neural Engine performance is ramped up by 50% and 70% respectively. The 12 is a way faster device.
- Although the battery is pretty much safe, the iPhone 12 has the ability to attach Magsafe accessories such as chargers, wallets and more.
The iPhone 12 is definitely a marked improvement over the iPhone 11, but it does come at a slightly higher cost. When it comes to Apple, it always makes sense to buy the latest series of phones compared to the older versions because you’ll have the latest technology for at least a year.
iPhone 12 Pro max Singapore Price and Review
The biggest iPhone yet is the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
The 11 Pro Max did not sell that well compared to the other phones in the 11 series because apart from the large display, there was no major difference between the phones.
The 12 Pro Max is different. It’s bigger, better and the best iPhone that Apple has released. And that’s not an overstatement.
Bigger and better, more often than not, means more expensive. Let’s see the price of the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
The iPhone 12 Pro Max’ price in Singapore starts at $1799 for 128GB, $1969 for 256GB and $2299 for 512GB.
The Pro Max has a few things going for it that makes it one of the elite phones, but it does have its downsides that we will cover.
Here are the pricing plans from different operators

iPhone 12 Pro Max Design & Display
The first thing that strikes you about the phone is its size. It dwarfs the iPhone 12 by a lot and is the biggest Apple iPhone ever manufactured.
It’s got the beautiful stainless steel finish on the sides that gives it that premium finish and the squared edges again are an eye catching feature.
With glass on the front and the back, the premium look is complete. It’s available in four colours – Graphite, Silver, Pacific Blue and Gold.
The Gold is especially striking and looks and feels super premium.
The massive size does have a problem. Holding the phone does become a hassle. For some people, it’s too huge and the squared edges don’t help as well.
The thick camera sensors housed in the back are raised and you’ll definitely need a case to flatten it out.
Let’s talk about the display. It has a massive 6.7-inch OLED display. Apple christened it the Super XDR display.
There are not many phones in the market that can beat this display. The thin bezels are barely noticeable.
This is an amazing display experience perfect for gamers and for people who consume a lot of content on their phones.
The iPhone 12 Pro Max like its siblings has the Ceramic Shield on top that is more resistant to drops compared to the older generation models. It is a much stronger device. But it will still break.
The new displays are also prone to scratches and that for sure requires a tempered glass.
Performance
The A14 Bionic chipset is by far the most powerful. The Pro Max has a 6GB RAM and a GPU which is better than its predecessor.
The iPhone 12 Pro Max is unmatched in terms of performance. It can play any game and multitask with ease.
It’s the fastest phone out there in the market.
iPhone 12 Pro Max Cameras
Apple’s flagship phones have the best cameras in the world. Period. If you think Apple doesn’t upgrade the iPhone’s camera every year, then think again.
It is a triple camera set-up with three 12-megapixel cameras performing different functions. The wide angle lens, ultra-wide angle lens and a 2.5x telephoto zoom.
All the cameras are enabled with the night mode which is an upgrade compared to last year. The i12 Pro Max does have a better camera than the 12 Pro with certain respects.
It is a bigger camera than the 12 Pro and can let in more light, it’s brighter and better.
It’s got the HDR3, Deep Fusion technology which is used for creating a perfect image after the image has been shot. Apple’s cameras also have got really good at identifying the image that is being captured and dynamically adjusts the settings ever so slightly to capture the best image.
The camera is better than the iPhone 12 Pro. Not in terms of specifications but purely in terms of the size of it.
When it comes to picture quality? There is not a major difference and this is the biggest issue with the 12 Pro Max. Ideally you want your best phone to have the best camera. It is the best, but the iPhone 12 also has the same stuff.
But we need to talk about the Night Mode. The night mode on the 12 Pro Max is way better than the 11 Pro Max. The photos details are rich and clearer than any other phone.
iPhone 12 Pro Max Battery
The iPhone 12 Mini’s battery life is poor because of the size of the phone. It’s the exact opposite for the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The size ensures that the battery can be massive and that gives you one of the best battery life across phones.
Having said that the 5G network does cause some drain compared to the same process done on a 4G network.
Another cool feature is the dynamic 5G use. When Apple deems it necessary to use a 5G network for the task you’re performing, it will automatically move to 5G, otherwise it switches back to the old-school 4G network.
This saves a lot of battery life. It takes quite a lot of time and a lot of resources to drain the battery. Yes, you heard it right. It’s hard to drain the battery on this phone and the phone can easily last more than a day on a single charge.
Some tests have suggested you can still be left with 30% battery after a 24 hour period. The 20W charger can give you 50% in about 30 minutes.
Final Thoughts
iPhone 12 Mini Singapore Review
The iPhone 12 Pro Max is an amazing phone. There is no downside to it unless it’s about price. It’s an expensive phone. But other than that, it’s the best smartphone in the world that money can buy!
The iPhone 12 Mini has received a lot of positive reactions. In an age of massive phones, the iPhone 12 sticks out with it’s small and diminutive form factor.
Before we get into the finer details. Here’s what the iPhone 12 Mini costs in Singapore.
The iPhone 12 Mini’s price in Singapore starts from $1149 for the 64GB version, $1219 for the 128GB version and $1389 for the 256GB version.
It’s available in five colours – White, Black, Blue, Green and (PRODUCT) Red.
Here are the iPhone 12 Mini operator plans
iPhone 12 Mini Singtel Price
Singtel Plans / iPhone 12 Mini | iPhone 12 Mini (64GB) | iPhone 12 Mini (128GB) | iPhone 12 Mini (256GB) |
XO 48 – 5G | $558 | $628 | $778 |

XO 108 – 5G | $0 | $0 | $148 |

Combo 12 – 5G | $0 | $0 | $0 |
The iPhone 12 Mini is the most affordable phone from the iPhone 12 series. But does it have what it takes to compete with the flagships from other companies?
Firstly if you have used only big sized phones for a while, the iPhone 12 Mini will feel a bit different. It’s super small. At 5.4-inches, even people with the smallest fingers will not have a problem operating this phone.
For people who like small phones, this is the flagship device of small smartphones.
This is Apple’s foray into 5G and the iPhone 12 Mini is part of the first iPhone’s to have 5G enabled.
iPhone 12 Mini Display & Design
Before we get to the display, we need to talk about the design. The design is a retro throwback to the yesteryear iPhone 5 with the squared off edges and absolutely flat sides. You can keep the phone standing upright with no support.
The design is spectacular. It’s made of Aerospace-grade aluminum, which is strong and sturdy.
Although it has a tiny display, the screen is a Super Retina XDR display which is an OLED screen. This is the same for the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 Pro.
As usual the displays of an iPhone are top class and it’s the same with the 12 Mini. From the colour contrasts to the richness of the details. If you are into the whole refresh rate comparison, then you’ll be disappointed because it’s got a 60Hz refresh rate which is 50% lesser than some of the competing phones out there which are available at half the cost.
It’s got a glass in the front and the back and is equipped with the highly touted Ceramic Shield. There have been tests conducted and the ceramic shield is way better than just the plain old Gorilla Glass displays from the earlier versions.
The Ceramic Shield can withstand 4X more drops.
Performance & Chipset
The A14 chipset which is the latest from Apple is common among all the iPhone 12 series phones and that includes the iPhone 12 mini as well. This is by no means an inferior device.
But there’s one downside to a powerful processor in a small phone like the iPhone 12. The processor cannot over work itself because of the lesser heat dissipating capabilities of a small device.
But that’s just theory, In reality, the iPhone 12 is as powerful as the iPhone 12 Pro Max in terms of performance. All scores from Geekbench, AnTuTu and Jet Stream tallied, the results are clear. The iPhone 12 Mini is an uber powerful phone.
iPhone 12 mini Cameras
Apart from the size of the display and the battery, the iPhone 12 has the same capabilities as the iPhone 12. That is quite impressive for a tiny device.
It has dual cameras with 12-megapixels each. It has the wide and ultrawide shooting capabilities of the iPhone 12 Pro.
In terms of other camera specs, it has Smart HDR 3, Deep Fusion, Night Mode and can shoot high quality Dolby Vision HD recording at 4K up to 30FPS.
Videos and photos on the iPhone 12 Mini are the same as the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. There are no differences there.
iPhone 12 mini Battery
Small body, small batteries and this was expected. It has a 2227 mAh battery which is a good 20% smaller than that of the iPhone 12.
The battery life for this phone is pretty abysmal. Battery life is tested by playing constant videos at 720p endlessly till the battery runs out and the iPhone 12 Mini can last just under 4 hours. That’s about an hour and a half less than the iPhone 12.
But obviously nobody is going to be draining their batteries in such a manner. Even with real-world use, you get about 8 to 10 hours, which is pretty poor for a smartphone in this day & age.
Considering this is a 5G device, it makes matters worse in terms of battery life. If you obsess over battery life, forget about it.
It works seamlessly with the Magsafe charger which just gets stuck to the back and is pretty seamless.
Other Features & Details
The back magnets let you attach a wallet as well which is seamless. This is a rugged phone and can last underwater for up to 30 minutes and up to 6 metres. You don’t have to worry about splashes and spills.
Apple doesn’t ship out the power brick and you’ll need to use an old power brick or buy a new one. They do ship the USB-C to lightning cable.
Final thoughts
The iPhone 12 Mini is an interesting offering from Apple. It’s the cutest iPhone with its size and design, but it also packs quite a punch when it comes to the A14 chipset and the dual cameras which are the same as the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.
In terms of performance it has no concerns. But there is an area where the iPhone 12 Mini is lacking considerably and that’s the battery life.
The battery is itself small and the battery life is even smaller. It cannot last the entire day and it would require some midday charging even during nominal use.
If you are outside, you very likely need to carry a powerbank. Apart from that downside, the iPhone 12 Mini is an uber powerful phone.
