The Realme phones, especially the older versions, competed with the likes of Xiaomi.
But the Realme 6 is in a different place altogether. It competes with slightly higher end phones like the One Plus 7 and One Plus 8 at a much cheaper price point.
Realme 6 Design & Display
The Realme 6 is a good looking phone with a big screen that has a 90.5% body to screen ratio. If not for those thick bezels at the bottom, this is a super good looking phone. When you look at this phone in the promo pictures, it looks like a glass back.
In reality, it’s a plastic back with a plastic frame. For a phone with a plastic finish, it looks great, especially in the two colours, Comet Blue and Comet White.
The display of the Realme 6 is big at 6.5-inches and a 90Hz refresh rate is something most people would be happy about considering the price they are paying.
One of the competitors of the Realme 6 is the One Plus 7 and it has the same refresh rate.
The touch sampling rate is a bit higher at 120Hz which is pretty awesome as the display reacts to your touch very quickly.
Realme 6 has an IPS LCD FHD+ display and obviously an AMOLED display isn’t possible at this price point.
But this display of the Realme 6 is pretty great. It is perfect for content consumption and gaming and you won’t find a difference.
The phone has an in- display selfie which requires no bezel to host the front camera. Wonder why Realme 6 didn’t lose the bezel at the bottom.
The phone has a fingerprint sensor on the side, which is the latest industry standards for fingerprint sensors. This sensor is blazing quick and the screen can be unlocked in 0.29 seconds. Lesser than the time it takes to blink!
Thankfully it has a 3.5mm jack at the base next to the speakers and the charging port.
Under the Hood
The Realme 6 runs on Android 10.0 with the Realme UI and the Helio G90T processor.
Coming to the Realme UI. Not a lot of people know about this specific UI. In fact, the Realme UI is a layer on top of Color OS 7.
Color OS is Oppo’s very own version of Android and as these companies are owned by the same parent company, they share the OS as well.
The Realme UI has some bloat to it, but nothing compared to Xiaomi.
The standards of the OS has improved and a lot of the interfaces and experiences are similar to Samsung and other Android phones out there.
The Helio G90T Processor is a gaming chipset. It can work seamlessly well with phones with up to 64MP and 10GB of RAM and Realme 6 definitely makes a cut here.
The phone comes with 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage. It also has a dual sim capability with a Micro SD card slot for expansion.
Realme 6 Cameras
The cameras are always the talk of the town when it comes to Realme phones. The Realme 6 is packed with some amazing camera hardware that will make the other flagship manufacturers take note.
The main camera is a AI Quad setup with
- 64MP main camera with a wide angle lens
- 8MP ultra wide angle lens with a 119 degree field view
- 2MP portrait lens
- 2MP macro lens
The front selfie camera is a 16MP shooter
The cameras support Super night scape, AI beauty mode, Slow Motion, Bokeh Effect control, Portrait Mode, Ultra Macro mode, Ultra Wide Mode and expert mode.
If professional photographers want to take full advantage of this camera, they can with the expert mode,
It also has other features such as Timelapse, Panoramic View, Face Recognition among others.
It can shoot videos at 1080p quality with 60fps.
Realme 6 is touting the in-display camera as a major feature, when in reality it’s not.
Realme 6 Battery
The Realme 6 has a powerhouse of a battery that is 4300 mAh. It can charge the phone fully in about an hour with the 30W fast charger that comes bundled with the phone.
The Realme 6 is again a big winner. It has a price point that is very attractive. It’s a big phone with a lot of power packed features. For the average person, they wouldn’t be able to differentiate between a Realme 6 and a One Plus device.
Pros
- Large display with a good refresh rate and 120 Hz touch sampling rate.
- Powerful processor that is solid for gaming and smooth functioning of apps
- The cameras on the Realme 6 are pretty epic and do a good enough job compared to most other flagships out there
- One of the biggest pros is the price point as with all Realme phones
- Big battery with fast charging capabilities ensures you are fully charged in an hour
Cons
- The OS is a layer of the Color OS 7 and it does have bloatware which is quite annoying for most people
The Realme 6 is a strong contender and will sell in massive quantities because it’s the perfect all round phone. At that price point it’s hard to beat a phone of this stature.
