Nothing Phone (2) 5G 12/512GB Singapore Price
Review of Nothing Phone (2)
The Nothing Phone 2 is a unique and novel Android smartphone that offers an appealing transparent design at a competitive price. With a starting price of SGD999 for the 256GB model and SGD1099 for the 512GB model, it provides top-tier specifications for a mid-range price point. The device retains the transparent back design seen in its predecessor, the Phone 1, but introduces enhancements to make it feel more premium, including a curved glass back.
The array of LEDs on the back has more functionality on the Phone 2, allowing for automatic brightness adjustment and displaying more complex patterns. Users can set various flash patterns for calls and notifications, providing a fun and customizable experience. The Phone 2 features a 6.7-inch OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, delivering a bright and smooth display.
Under the hood, the Phone 2 is powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, offering solid performance. Although it’s not the latest chipset available, it still outperforms Google’s Pixel 7 and is 80% faster than the Phone 1. The device’s battery life is impressive, lasting up to 40 hours between charges with active screen use and 5G connectivity. Nothing claims that the battery maintains at least 80% of its original capacity for at least 1,000 full charge cycles.
In terms of sustainability, the Phone 2 is made of recycled materials, accounting for 20% of its weight. It has a carbon footprint of 53.45kg CO2 equivalent, and Nothing publishes sustainability reports. The device runs on Nothing OS 2.0, which is based on Android 13. The software offers a clutter-free experience with some interesting additions, such as larger app folders and customizable quick settings widgets. However, the Phone 2 only receives three years of Android updates and four years of bimonthly security fixes, which is a year shorter than the industry standard.
The camera setup on the Phone 2 is similar to that of the Phone 1, with two 50-megapixel rear cameras and a 32-megapixel front camera. While image quality has improved over its predecessor, photos still lack sharpness and detail when viewed at full size. The absence of an optical zoom and the limitations of digital zoom are notable drawbacks. However, video recording is solid, offering fun features like slow motion.
Overall, the Nothing Phone 2 is a solid update over the Phone 1, offering a more premium feel, advanced lighting features, improved performance, and good battery life. The unique transparent design and slick Android 13 software add to its appeal. However, it falls short in terms of camera performance, software support with only four years of updates, and water resistance limited to being splash-resistant. Additionally, it faces tough competition from rival Google phones.
